The Anti-Aging Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid

It’s a rather harsh-sounding name, isn’t it? Hy-a-lur-onic acid. But don’t let that scare you off. Hyaluronic acid has been a safe, key ingredient in effective beauty products for over ten years. But more importantly, it has been an important component of your skin since you were born. Essentially, hyaluronic acid is a biopolymer that helps your skin retain water. As our skin ages, the level of hyaluronic acid it contains begins to deplete, and it becomes more difficult for the skin to naturally maintain moisture. Because dehydrated skin lacks radiance and allows fine lines and wrinkles to form, addressing this skincare concern is the necessary first step in building an effective regimen.

In a previous post, I discussed advanced, wrinkle-filling injections containing hyaluronic acid. These injections are popular, non-permanent solutions to addressing wrinkles. Unfortunately, at several hundred dollars per injection, they also carry a hefty price tag. I want to take this opportunity to point out the benefits of topically applied hyaluronic acid. Like the injections, products containing hyaluronic acid address lines and wrinkles; however, they do so on a daily basis and in a way that is much easier on the budget.

A good serum will penetrate the skin to maintain a healthy level of hydration and to support the skin matrix (the actual structure of the skin). A product such as my I On Youth Roll-On Serum with its stainless steel roller ball delivers hyaluronic acid back into the epidermis where it has been demonstrated to hold moisture, thereby “plumping” the skin, while it stimulates the production of collagen. Paired with sodium PCA, another important, naturally occurring element of our skin, I On Youth Roll-On Serum not only provides maximum moisture, but it also reduces inflammation and offers protection against the harmful effects of free radicals.

If seeking out knowledge is the first step in creating a skincare regimen, gathering the right tools is the next step. While there are literally hundreds of thousands of skincare products to choose from, feel free to keep it simple. Start with a serum that addresses basic, unchanging needs. Lines and wrinkles are most often the first signs of aging and the most persistent beauty concern. Fight these by keeping the skin hydrated, supporting skin cell structure, and protecting from harmful external irritants. As other skincare concerns arise, simply supplement your regimen as needed without the need for a complete overhaul.

This way, you can spend less time staying beautiful and more time being beautiful!
