Film Lovers Flock to Palm Springs

By Irene Michaels
January 3, 2009

They were all there at the 20th Palm Springs Festival--Dustin Hoffman, James Cronwell, Leonardo Di Caprio, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Donald Sutherland--Hollywood’s best and brightest stars, all striding down the Red Carpet.

Irene with Sean Penn The Festival was founded by Sonny Bono as a way to promote tourism in the area. Today, it’s bigger than big, drawing the media, filmgoers and film makers from all over the country.

Ron Howard Ron Howard, nominated for Best Director for his film “Frost/Nixon”, is a perennial favorite with the crowd. He’s friendly and ever so easy to talk to. Ron was joking that as his dimples get fatter, his hair gets thinner. (He’s such an attractive guy, why doesn’t he just shave his head? It’s a look that works for a lot of very sexy men)

He mentioned that at just 12 years old, he knew he was going to direct films. Wonder if he shared his dream with Sheriff Andy and Aunt Bee?

Arny Granat with Clint Eastwood Dustin Hoffman presented the Chairman’s Award to Clint Eastwood who was friendly, chatty and open to having his picture taken.

Patrick Mundt and guests Irene with Josh Brolin The fun didn’t end on the Red Carpet. After the awards, everyone went to the “after party” at the Parker Hotel, hosted by OUTSTANDING designer and Art trader, Patrick Mundt. Jackie Lee Houston helped make everything possible with her generous financial support. Festival Board Chair Harold Matzner should feel very very proud.

This was a super-charged evening. But it did beg a question--other than Frieda Pinto, Mary Hart and Dakota Fanning, WHERE WERE ALL THE GIRLS?????
