Cavalia
Largest Touring Show Under the Big Top in North America By Irene Michaels and Terry Jun
Right here in Chicago's own back yard in the West Loop is a spectacular combination of horses, acrobats, aerialists, dancers and riders all performing under the Big Tent. One of the most lavish and breathtaking shows I have seen in a long time. Exciting, dramatic, whimsical and sexy are only a few adjectives to describe this Cirque du Soleil style show of horses.
I spoke with founder and artistic director Normand Latourelle yesterday while having a tour back stage where the horses are kept. Normand owns all of the 65 horses that he brought into Chicago on a chartered Boeing 747. The different breeds of horses include Arabians, Spanish Pure Breeds, Lusitanos, Quarter Horses, Appaloosas and Paint horses. When Normand talks about of his horses you can feel the love he has for each and every one of them. I was taken with his charm and gentle demeanor. He spoke about how great the city of Chicago was and that it was a pleasure working with alderman Robert Fioretti and the people. The show opens July 14th.
