A Special Place

There is a beautiful community outside of Chicago called "Wayne". It is known as horse country. If you were to take a ride there, you would think you were in Ireland or England with beautiful landscapes, white fences and wonderful old homes.

The Dunham Woods Riding Club, which is also in Wayne, was founded in 1934 by a group of residents from Wayne and Geneva. A hunt takes place every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday from August to December. During that time there are many social gatherings for the horsy crowd.

After the hunt on Sundays, there is a stirrup cup in the backyard of someone's home or estate. Snacks, port, cheeses, sweets are all served to the riders which are still on their horses while the spectators do the serving.

There is also a hunt ball that takes place in November where the members of the hunt who have earned their colors dress in formal hunt attire.

In December the annual puppy auction is held in the Dunham Woods Riding Club. The puppy hounds are giving their names for the next year's hunting season. This takes place before dinner is served, and then the riders who have earned their colors are presented with them.
