While more traditional recipes use cognac, we like mixing Patrón XO Café with our black coffee. This dry liqueur adds a heavy, wintry richness to your cup of coffee. Top with whipped cream and dust with cocoa powder to finish this cold weather treat. What you need:

  • 1 1/2 oz Patrón XO Café
  • Strongly brewed coffee
  • Whipped cream
  • Cocoa powder

Hot Peppermint Patty

The hot peppermint patty can be made as easily or with as much sophistication as you wish—and it’s always delicious. The idea is simply: hot chocolate + peppermint schnapps, proportioned according to your tastes. Garnish with peppermint leaves, whipped cream, and crushed candy canes for a more festive rendition.  What you need:

  • Brandy

Inspired by the serving suggestions stemming from Joy the Baker’s astute observation that cold weather warrants hot water and bourbon, this fresh recipe doesn’t disappoint. Add freshly squeezed orange juice and honey to hot black tea and spike with a “glug” of bourbon. What you need:

  • Hot black tea
  • Fresh orange juice
  • Honey
  • Your favorite bourbon

Buttered Rum

Yes, you can get quite fancy with this one, slow cooking a big batch for hours. Or you can take and whip up a simple, single serving in seconds by following this recipe from Esquire. Just pour piping hot water into a mug over sugar cubes, butter, and rum, adding nutmeg if preferred. What you need:

  • 2 sugar cubes
  • 2 ounces dark rum
  • Part of unsalted butter
  • Hot water
