Home at the Oscars – Recapping the 2014 Academy Awards

Home at the Oscars – Recapping the 2014 Academy Awards

Quite an interesting and new experience for me, this is the first time I have actually been able to sit and watch the entire Academy Awards “and what a show it was.”

I have been attending the Oscars for the past 10 years: either I was backstage, mingling on the red carpet, or assisting in preparation for one of the after parties. This year, I actually got to see what the audience gets to see, sitting in a front row seat at a private home with some of my very close friends. It was so much fun to watch Ellen Degeneres, I loved her tuxedos since I am a big tuxedo fan.

The dresses were pretty cool this year with a lot of neutral colored dresses and of course Lupita N’yongo’s stunning custom Prada dress, but my favorite was Charlize Theron’s elegant black dress.

My personal picks for the winners this year were:

  • Best Picture – 12 Years A Slave
  • Best Actor – Chiwetel Ejiofor
  • Best Actress – Meryl Streep
  • Best Supporting Actor – Bradley Cooper
  • Best Supporting Actress – Lupita Nyong’o

My biggest disappointment was for Best Director, I thought that Steve McQueen should have won for 12 Years A Slave, but at least he did win Best Picture of the year. I was quite surprised that Gravity took away so many awards. My favorite speech was from Lupita Nyong’o, she was articulate, poetic and inspirational when she accepted her statuette.

In any event, it was a great show and congratulations to all of the winners and losers because there really aren’t any losers when you’re nominated for an Academy Award.

Already looking forward to next to year, but next time leave out the pizzas.

My artistic interests began early in my teens working as a model and a dancer throughout the U.S. I formed my first modeling agency before I was twenty. While modeling I secured a re-occurring role in the popular daytime TV series General Hospital. Read more…
