Broadway in Chicago’s Summer Concert at Millennium Park

The Jay Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park was recently transformed into a stunning Broadway stage on August 18th when Broadway in Chicago returned with their annual free summer concert.

Sponsored by ABC 7 Chicago, this entertaining production showcased a wide variety of talented artists, ranging from Jersey Boys to Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. This Broadway spectacular kicked off with the Million Dollar Quartet, featuring the legendary personalities of Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Elvis lighting up the stage with some of their greatest hits. The show then segued to the elaborate magic of The Illusionists, followed by numerous entertainers, including the world premier of Amazing Grace, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, Pippin, etc.

Hosted by Channel 7’s Janet Davies, this annual free summer concert was attended by an estimated 4,000 fans, seated both on the spacious lawn and in the red seat pavilion area. With a total of 14 acts in all, this impressive production kept the capacity crowd entertained for over two and a half hours without a single dull or repetitive moment.

Congratulations to the Dept. of Cultural Affairs and Special Events for coordinating such a remarkable collaboration. No one walked away disappointed from this brilliant, non-stop Broadway extravaganza that was even better than last year and leaves us hungry for next year’s concert.
