“BEAUTIFUL” THE MOVIE MUSICAL

Spread the love

We’ve heard exciting news once again, and we’re here to share it with everyone else. Beautiful, the musical about Carole King’s early life and career, is slowly making its way to film. It’s an amazing time for all music lovers and the entire Jewish community at large. The musical first opened on Broadway with Jessie Mueller playing Carole King. Mueller won a Tony for her performance, and the production earned several nominations, including Best Musical.

Carole King: The Icon.

Carole King, born in New York City, showed a great deal of love for music from the early age of 3. When she was 15, she auditioned for ABC Paramount Records, where she met Don Costa and got a contract. Her first single didn’t gain a lot of traction, but she continued music either way. She graduated from high school and went to Queens College, where she met her husband, Gerry Goffin, an aspiring lyricist, and, thereafter, quit school. Their song “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” recorded by The Shirelles, brought them into the limelight. The couple went on to write more hits, such as “The Loco-Motion,” “Up on the Roof,” “Take Good Care Of My Baby,” and “One Fine Day” for solo artists. The couple separated in 1968, but that didn’t stop Carole’s music career.

She started performing and released her hit album Tapestry in 1971. The album earned 4 Grammy Awards remaining in the Top 100 for six years, with her single. It’s Too Late earned the number 1 spot on the pop singles chart. Her follow-up album Carole King: Music sold half a million copies in its first week, staying in the pop album chart for 44 weeks and earning a platinum record. Her next two albums after that were gold records, and she had a best-selling album as well.

Her remarriage after Gerry Goffin also ended in a divorce, and she married Rick Evers, who turned abusive later on. So she and her children left him and relocated to Hawaii. And all the while, she never stopped the music. Carole King continued to write, perform, record, and contribute to the soundtracks of several movies, also making appearances in films and television as an actress.

She had a series of successful tours and sold-out shows and recorded live albums as well. She published her autobiography The Natural Woman with hopes that it would help other women gain the courage to walk out of their abusive relationships.

Beautiful, the movie musical is already gaining a lot of attention as Daisy Edgar Jones has landed the role to play Carole King. This act didn’t sit well with a portion of the general public. More than a few comments on Twitter show fans clamoring for a Jewish actress to act in the role of the musical legend instead.

Carole King isn’t bothered by this, though, as she’s given the actress her blessing. She told Variety that the actress had a spirit and energy she saw in herself when she was younger.

The premiere date has yet to be released, so we can only put the movie on our movie wishlist and wait with anticipation.
