47th Chicago International Film Festival
The AMC River East 21 movie theatre was the site of the 47th Chicago International Film Festival Summer Gala on Friday, August 19th. So significant was this event that Governor Quinn proclaimed Aug. 19th “Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez Day” throughout the state of Illinois.
The red carpet outside the AMC theatre sparkled with a blizzard of flashbulbs that blinded the crowd as the shiny black, limousine transporting Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez pulled up to a crowded curb packed with fans filled with anticipation at the arrival of this Hollywood legend and his son.
A special premiere screening of Sheen’s latest film “The Way” directed by his son Estevez was followed by a glittering reception at The Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers, sparking interest for thousands of movie fans of both stars, leading up to the 47th Chicago International Film Festival on Oct. 6th – 20th.
“The Way” spotlights Martin Sheen as an American doctor who travels to France to collect the remains of his son who perished in a storm while walking in the Pyrenees mountain range. Driven by his deep sadness and necessity to better understand his son, Sheen challenges himself to duplicate the same journey, leaving his west coast way of life far behind. While walking 800 km through the Camino de Santiago is known as The Way of St. James, Sheen’s character (Tom) encounters individuals from all over the world who are seeking deeper meaning in their own lives.
Thank you Michael Kutza, founder of the Chicago International Film Festival for doing it again.
