Gwyneth Paltrow Hires a Personal Book Curator

Spread the love

Gwyneth Paltrow has always loved the sight of hundreds of books in her home but of course, they must be organized in style.

With devices like Kindle making reading electronic and convenient for everyone, it’s easy to forget the uniqueness of an actual physical book. Books have always been in style, whether they are in your hands or sitting pretty on perfectly organized bookshelves.

The 46-year-old lifestyle guru and founder of Goop has done it again by hiring a personal book curator to design the style of books on the shelves of her Los Angeles home.

This isn’t the first time Gwyneth Paltrow has shown such interest in having books perfectly curated for her home. She already had quite a collection but following the remodeling of the Brentwood Property a few years ago, Gwyneth decided that her library was still incomplete. She hired Thatcher Wine, founder of Juniper Books as a book curator stating that she needed about five to six hundred more books to complete her shelves.

“I looked at books she already owned, which focused on fashion, art, culture, photography, and architecture, as well as books that her kids liked. We expanded on those topics, and for the kids, we included a selection of classics that we thought they might like as they got older.” Wine said.

He explained the process and the creative thinking behind it. He explained that every tome used was handpicked to fit with the tone of the room.

“In the family room we integrated the books into her existing collection so that it felt very light, inviting, and easy to grab off the shelves,” he said. “In the dining room, we stuck to a more rigid color palette of black, white, and gray since it was less of a space where one might hang out and read.”

“First, think about what you are trying to accomplish,” he said. “Is there a story you are trying to tell? A color palette you want to achieve? Then think about how that might work within the context of your home and available space.”

While Wine didn’t hold back on his excellent work, some say that adding five hundred to six hundred books to a home library is quite excessive.

Well, it might be just a little but when it comes to Gwyneth Paltrow anything is possible. As Wine would say, having thousands of books in your home library does not mean you will constantly be reading them. Sometimes books are only a reflection of where you have been and where you want to go.

Wine has curated for several libraries including those of the NoMad Hotel and stars Shonda Rhimes and Laura Dern.

Gwyneth also has a group of Wine’s own Juniper books adding their color to her shelves. The actress and her husband Brad Falchuk are all set to move in together after several months following their wedding in the Hamptons.
