Café Society
Café Society, the latest film from four-time Oscar winner and prolific director and screenwriter Woody Allen (46 films and counting!).
Hosted by Metropolitan Capital the event was in collaboration with Amazon Studios and Executive Producer Ron Chez, a venture capitalist, and investor. Café Society is the third in a four-film financing deal for Chez with Allen.
Joining Allen on the Café Society red carpet was Chez along with Executive Producers Adam B. Stern and Marc I. Stern, Allen’s wife Soon-Yi Previn and MetCap’s Chairman and CEO Michael Rose.
300 people were invited to attend MetCap’s private event. Michael Rose introduced the Café Society screening comparing Allen to legendary director and writer Ingmar Bergman. Rose said, “There are many artistic parallels between Bergman and Allen: lush visuals, comedic wit, moral dilemmas and the tendency of human nature towards self-deception.” Laughter filled the theatre when he added, “As you navigate through all the soul searching, it’s important to find a really good financial advisor.”
The film features a scene with the main characters in the nightclub co-owned by Jesse Eisenberg’s character. The repartee centers on movie star Irene Dunne, a five-time Academy Award Best Actress nominee who was an actress and singer in the 1930s through the ’50s. Dunne’s granddaughter, Ann-Marie Streibich, was sitting next to me. She turned and asked, “Did you know there was a scene about my grandmother?” No! What a surprise! It made the movie all the more memorable to be sitting by my friend who is the granddaughter of a Hollywood legend.
Café Society opens nationwide on July 29.
