Nik Wallenda’s Big Apple Circus
In 2017, Nik Wallenda took action to revive The Big Apple Circus. He had decided that this classic circus was due for a remake and revival, and he wasn’t wrong.
Nik partnered with mega producers Michael Cohl & Arny Granat and director, Phillip Wm. McKinley to ensure the success of the show he had now titled, “Making The Impossible, Possible”
The Beginning for The Big Apple Circus
The Big Apple Circus was first founded in 1977 by Paul Binder. Binder was a director and ringmaster who wanted a larger crowd for his performance.
When the circus debuted, the early shows were a single trapeze, dog acts, clowns, double trapeze artists, tightrope walking, jugglers, and a host of other performers.
As years rolled by, the circus grew in popularity and soon hosted celebrities like Britney Spears.
But in early 2016, the circus was closed because of bankruptcy. That was when Nik Wallenda stepped in and announced in 2017 that he would remake and be the headline act in the 40th-anniversary comeback later that year.
The Present
True to his word, The Big Apple Circus made a magnificent comeback with a modern twist.
It featured Nik Wallenda and his fearless family of high wire walkers, world-class circus artists like;
7th generation entertainer and comedic daredevil, Johnny Rockett, the 6th generation trapeze star Alan Jones Silva, talented singer & performer Elli Huber, dog act performer Diana Vedyashkina, The Yab Brothers, a.k.a. Yabsera and Abebe, and many more from around the world.
The circus has been open under the big top at the Lincoln Center and continues to perform and thrill audiences.
The Daredevil Nik Wallenda
Nik Wallenda was born to a family of performers and is the 7th generation of the legendary Wallenda family often referred to as the Flying Wallendas.
Nik learned to walk the wire from the age of 2 and fell in love with the inspiring nature of performing impossible feats.
He currently holds 11 World Records, including the highest 4-level 8-person pyramid on the wire, the highest and longest bicycle ride on a wire, hanging from a helicopter by his teeth, and the first tightrope crossing of an active volcano.
It was Nik’s lifelong dream to become the only person to walk directly over Niagara Falls and he did it live on TV networks in 2012.
In 2013, he became the first person to walk a wire across the Grand Canyon and in 2020 Nik became the first person to walk a tightrope over an active volcano.
Most of Nik’s feats have been aired live across several countries, breaking network ratings and social media records.
He performs every walk with the purpose of “inspiring people around the world to follow their dreams.”
Nik is married to Erendira Vazquez, an 8th generation performer and they have 3 children together.
