Showplace Spring Spectacular a six-day equestrian extravaganza culminated on Sunday, June 16th at Lamplight Equestrian Center (in Wayne, IL) with the much anticipated U.S.E.F. “AA” Rated – Jumper Rating 4 competition. The sun was bright this Father’s Day as the $30,000 Barrington Saddlery Grand Prix commenced, showcasing perhaps some of the best equestrian talents in the Midwest. What began as a chicken farm (on Dunham Rd.) in 1979 evolved over the years into a very prosperous world-class equestrian sports facility, which was very evident on this relaxing Sunday afternoon.
The riders were young and the horses stood tall as horseback riding enthusiasts from across the country and their impressive horses gathered at Lamplight for this “Showplace Spring Spectacular II” and the show did not disappoint anyone in this festive crowd on the last day of competition. Pampered spectators in the V.I.P. tents and under striped canopies who were accommodated with everything from roast beef to champagne were eager to applaud these up and coming talented riders.Capturing the prestigious blue ribbon from Topeka, Kansas was equestrian Hunter Holloway, riding “Yolo” to a proud 1st place prize of $9,000. Nancy Whitehead’s amazing “Rendezvous 22” won second place, ridden by Nick Novak, garnering $6,600 prize money; while Laura Linback successfully guided “HH Dauphin” to a proud 3rd place finish, receiving a respectable $3,900 for owner Woodrun of Mundelein, IL.
