It’s the equestrian season! Nothing is more exciting than looking forward to one of the most prestigious horse shows in the heart of a major city. The Washington International Horse Show is the highlight of the equestrian year with up to 600 horses and riders competing for over $480, 000 in prize money and more than 26, 000 spectators to watch them give their best.

If anything, this is the one event you don’t want to miss.

Washington International Horse Show has existed since 1958 and has become one of much anticipated equestrian events of each year attended by presidents, celebrities, politicians, and the military elite. The event is scheduled for October annually, and this year’s Washington International Horse Show is right around the corner.

The horse show includes Olympic-level competition with a rich variety of charity and community events. You would witness show jumping, Shetland pony races, hunt teams, and equitation competitions. These events run for six days and showcase the most beautiful American horses. Breeds like Quarter Horse, American saddlebred, and Morgan are present alongside famous riders. There is a kid’s day organized to keep kids engaged with lots of fun and educational activities, including pony rides. Barn night is a big part of the show and it features more prizes and games. Then, there’s a military night which features exciting competitions and games used to support a cause.

Major highlights of the show include $136, 300 Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Washington, the $25,000 Land Rover Puissance (high jump), the $50,000 Speed Final, and the Lindsay Maxwell Charitable Fund WIHS Equitation Finals for the country’s top junior riders.

This year’s event marks the 61^stAnniversary of the Washington International Horse Show and it will take place October 22 – October 27, 2019, at Capital One Arena in Washington, DC.
