Land Rover 2019 Kentucky Three Day Event
The Land Rover 2019 Kentucky Three Day Event is a sponsored competition that takes place in Lexington, Kentucky annually. For the champions of the competition, a total prize of $400,000 is distributed and awarded by Land Rover, with a Rolex watch being gifted to the first place horse and rider. For years it has been a highly regarded and sought after event, with hundreds of participants each go-around.
The event is sponsored by supporting organizations that donate their funds toward the success of the competition every year. In addition, the volunteers are an integral part of the event as well. With over two thousand volunteers required every year, the competition would not be possible without the help of these loyal ambassadors.
Along with the thousands of enthusiastic supporters of the sport, I myself will also be participating in the event this year. It is an honor to be a part of such a wonderful benefit, especially in light of the current circumstances. The 2019 Kentucky Three Day, in particular, has a special place in the hearts of everyone who has been involved for the past few decades.
Over the span of 40 years, Helen Sproat was the director of mounted stewards for the program. Sadly, this will be the first year without her guidance in the competition, as she tragically passed away last year. Before she left us, she made arrangements for a large tree to be planted in the park to honor all of the volunteers that have been so dedicated and are still involved to this day.
During the 2019 Kentucky Three Day, we will all honor Helen in return by wearing dark green armbands with her name embroidered in gold on cross-country day in order to commemorate her achievements. While we acknowledge that Helen will not be with us with heavy hearts, her energetic spirit will be on the course with all of us in her absence.
This year, the event will be open to the public starting on Thursday, April 25th, extending all the way to Sunday, April 28th. However, the actual duration of the competition will take place from Thursday to Saturday, with the champions being presented on the following Sunday. The gates will open officially on Thursday morning at 7 am. Thursday evening will be very special, ending the night with a charity fundraising dinner to benefit the Bluegrass Land Conservancy.
Throughout the duration of the event, there will be a series of dressage tests for the riders at the Rolex Stadium in the afternoons. Saturday morning will commence the cross country test, with the jumping tests concluding on Sunday afternoon before the winners are awarded their prizes.
The Land Rover 2019 Kentucky Three Day is a beneficial event led by an organization of wonderful people who strive to give back to the community. I am very honored to be participating in this event as a volunteer and continuing to carry out the exceptional mission that Ms. Sproat intended.
