Celebrating the start of the new year in cinematic style, the annual Palm Springs International Film Festival took place from Jan. 1st-11th. As a matter of fact, numbers for the opening weekend of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens are already available. Variety reports that, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens micronized box office records this weekend, racking up a monumental $238 million opening and justifying the Walt Disney Company’s $4 billion purchase of Lucasfilm.”

Celebrity Fight Night founder Jimmy Walker joined Andrea Bocelli for the unveiling of a new basketball/sports court at St. Vincent de Paul in Phoenix. Funds for the new space were raised at the 2nd Annual Celebrity Fight Night in Italy charity trip with Bocelli. The new Celebrity Fight Night Sport Court will serve as a recreation and basketball court for those who find themselves in need of services from St. Vincent de Paul.
The Arcs announced that female mariachi band Mariachi Flor de Toloache are set to open their shows as part of their Fall 2015 North American Tour. Dan Auerbach’s side project also features the ladies on The Arcs’ new album, Yours, Dreamily, as backup singers. Both bands perform on Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 2 and 3 at the Vic Theatre.
